I was going to say some terrible things about our president, but then he offered me $5,000 to give him a 5-star rating on Yelp, so how could I refuse?

But seriously, here’s the situation: Ukraine is holding its own against Russia, and it’s only a matter of time before they run out of North Koreans… Surely it is an exaggeration to claim that Russia has had 1.5 million casualties, killed, wounded, or missing, since 2022? Or maybe not.

The point, however, is that Russia is producing glide bombs and ballistic missiles at a terrifying rate, and without Patriots, the Ukrainians have no defense against ballistic missiles. Just by coincidence, he ordered an aerial attack on Iran, literally right in the middle of negotiations, to which Iran sensibly responded with drones and ballistic missiles aided by Russian precision satellite targeting. As a result, some expensive reconnaissance planes took direct hits. Not to mention the “hundreds” of buildings on US bases in the region that were damaged or destroyed along with the food and toilet paper for 5,000 sailors. All of these damages were covered up by the Pentagon which had already forced all their reporters out with an oath that they couldn’t ethically sign. The DHS also embargoed civilian satellite photos of the region since the beginning of the war.

So, to make a long story short, just when the Ukrainians need Patriot missiles more than ever, he wastes them with an unnecessary war against Iran. Not just Patriots, but THAADS– our most potent and expensive defensive missile system. The stocks of smart bombs are running low too. This puts a dent in Pentagon claims that, with the new, more precise bombs, they can reverse the historical failures of aggressive air campaigns to topple regimes or win wars.

For example, there was the Blitz in World War II. German bombing of English air bases might have destroyed British resistance, but Hitler diverted his bombers to civilian targets. Civilian morale was reportedly extremely high in the face of rationing and privation. Men were forced to build air raid shelters for their families in the back garden. Reportedly Hitler was enraged by the accidental British bombing of German civilians.

In the reverse engagement, Allied bombing of Germany didn’t cause the Wehrmacht to lay down its arms. Combined invasion by Soviet, American, British, Free French, and other international infantrymen (and they were all men) was required to bring Hitler down. At the end, German resistance was even more fanatical.

Then there was the Vietnam war, in which massive American bombing of a small country, what was then called North Vietnam, failed to stop the Viet Cong and regular North Vietnamese troops. Even the dispersal of toxic defoliants over wide areas of Vietnamese and Cambodian forest didn’t stop them (they were both men and women). The Tet offensive was a Viet Cong disaster, but it inflicted unacceptable casualties on the Americans. It showed the South Vietnamese military to be completely unreliable and fatally corrupt. The Tet offensive nearly succeeded in the face of saturation bombing, and again, Marines were required on the ground to wipe out the Viet Cong who occupied Hue.

Therefore, it is impossible to expect the Iranian regime to cede power in the face of mere civilian privation or a low approval rating. Only wiping out every Iranian in power who doesn’t turn traitor to his country will do. Iran’s controlling regime is a combination of of a repressive, misogynistic theocracy and a brutally effective Revolutionary Guard Corps which acts like a protection racket with its fingers in every profitable business in the country. They have resisted sanctions for decades. If they showed weakness to the general public they would be torn to shreds in moments.

Iran is already a society controlled at the point of a gun by its government. In this way it is similar to Nazi Germany or Soviet Russia or North Korea. In China, social control is exercised more genteelly, but equally intrusively.

Iran’s government is clearly malign and should be opposed by the American government. But bombing from the air is not the answer. We should have been guided by the last 47 years of caution since Ayatollah Ali Khomeini took over.

The best way to oppose the Iranian government is by subterfuge– the deniability of any malign actions should be paramount. The CIA could cultivate a network of secret agents within Iran who were advised merely to observe and report. Incentives would be limited to a relatively small payment– enough to implicate the recipient but not enough to make him quit his job. The idea is to turn popular opinion more in favor of the attitude that Americans are good and can be trusted. In this way, we could subvert the people against their leaders.

Bombing them, especially causing civilian casualties, turns the population against us, increases resistance, and causes a lot of damage that might affect their quality of life negatively. If we lose the war (perish the thought) we might be forced to pay reparations to get out of it.

The other problem is that we are wasting large quantities of expensive munitions that the Ukrainians need right now to defend themselves against the Russians, who must be our enemies too because they are helping the Iranians– and being helped by the Iranians.

So, in effect, our president is committing treason by pursuing this air war against Iran and weakening Ukraine’s defenses. But I warned you (actually a lot of people warned you) back in 2016 that this same man has been in the pockets of Russia’s intelligence services as a “useful idiot” since the late 1980’s, when he went to Moscow and was involved with beauty pageants there. He also got on the radar of the Soviet Secret Service when he married a Czech national– who made it easier for them to surveil him because the Soviet Secret Service effectively controlled the Czech Secret Service.

He’s also helping the oil companies by forcing dramatic increases in the price of oil due to the Iranian’s predictably closing the Strait of Hormuz. Now their allies the Houthis are attacking Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea facilities (the pipeline serving Red Sea ports has already been knocked out for several weeks by drone attacks).

This is causing major difficulties for our “allies” the Saudis, who have been at war with the Houthis for years. They did have a truce for several years, but this has Scotched it. Accordingly, the Saudis pled with Washington to bomb the Houthis and stop their advance on the Red Sea coast. Washington has not responded to their plea, which makes this ally sad.

The only way American companies would consent to have anything to do with Venezuelan oil is if the price of oil is more than $80 a barrel. That oil is so heavy and “sour” (hard to refine and full of sulfur) that it’s not profitable to refine unless the price of oil approaches $100 a barrel. That expense of refining, plus Venezuela’s history of expropriating the property of American oil companies, and the dilapidated state of Venezuelan oil infrastructure, makes that country a hard sell.

By luck, however, the Iran adventure came along and raised the price of oil (as well as creating a shortage) enough to make Venezuelan crude a paying proposition.

This is why he doesn’t care about the midterm elections. He has already accomplished his goals for his second term: cement America’s dependence on oil, raise its price enough to make his bets on Venezuela pay off, and earn billions in cryptocurrency scams. Who cares if he’s impeached and investigated until the cows come home? He’ll never be convicted, thanks to the Republican minority, and he can stall the Democratic House investigative committees for two years while the economy tanks and inflation spikes again.

Along the way, he has accomplished the destruction of USAID. They took away all the food aid and medical aid including President Bush’s PEPFAR, which bought AIDS medicines for needy Africans. Last fall, a medical journal published an article estimating that 600,000 people, mostly in Africa and mostly children under five, had died because food aid had been cut off without warning. A certain trillionaire denied this, however, claiming that “not one” person had died because of the aid cutoff.
