Abigail Adams: “Remember, all men would be tyrants if they could”

Abigail Adams wrote a letter to her husband on March 31, 1776, while he was away working on the Declaration of Independence (actually, she wrote many letters.)  Here is a larger quote from her March 31 letter:

Do not put such unlimited power into the hands of the husbands. Rememberall men would be tyrants if they couldIf particular care and attention is not paid to the ladies, we are determined to foment a rebellion, and will not hold ourselves bound by any laws in which we have no voice or representation.
